Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard said Thursday afternoon that one of the suspects in the recent burglary of Roganville Baptist Church had been captured in Angelina County.
He is 20-year-old Gavyn R. Deaton, of Lufkin, and a second suspect in the crime is a 16-year-old from this area.
Havard said investigators contacted Deaton, but he refused to cooperate and was then considered a felony fugitive. Havard also noted that Deaton was wanted in Angelina County for a burglary there.
The sheriff said Deaton is expected to be brought to the Jasper County Jail on Friday.
In a statement, Havard wrote “It’s bad enough to break into any building, but to break into a church is absolutely despicable. I can assure the people of Jasper County he will be located and put in the Jasper County Jail ASAP.”
