One person is dead following a late Thursday morning crash in north Jasper County. Emergency crews responded shortly before the noon hour to Highway 96 near County Road 227, which is just north of Recreational Road 255.
Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark investigated the crash and she reported that 88-year-old Bobby Gene Hamilton, of Brookeland, was driving his 1994 Ford pickup truck southbound, while a 2012 Peterbilt truck towing a mobile home was traveling northbound and followed by a 2010 Hino truck.
Clark said for an unknown reason, Hamilton’s pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane and struck the mobile home, and then hit the Hino truck.
Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Brett Holloway.
Sergeant Clark said the driver of the Peterbilt, Rodolfo Rangel, 45, of Houston, and the driver of the Hino truck, Michael Masters, 48, of Splendora, were not injured.
