Newton County Sheriff Eddie Shannon says a late Tuesday morning shooting in Deweyville has left one man hospitalized, and another man in jail.
According to Shannon, it all began shortly before 11:00 when his deputies responded to a report of a disturbance with shots fired at a residence on County Road 4202, and arrived to find 36-year-old Clifford Stephenson with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Shannon said Stephenson was flown by medical helicopter to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. There's no word on his condition.
Meanwhile, Shannon said deputies initially detained, and then arrested 35-year-old Dustin Barlow. He was taken to the Newton County Jail, where charges are pending against him.
