UPDATED - Mother and son dead after house fire near Lake Sam Rayburn

A second body has been found in the rubble of a house fire at Rayburn Country, and investigators are searching for answers as to how it started. Justice of the Peace Brett Holloway, who is also the Rayburn Fire Chief, has identified them as Evelyn Simmons, 73, and Corey Cheatham, 56. Judge Holloway said that he has ordered autopsies on both. The volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department were dispatched out shortly after 6:00 Saturday morning to 611 Players Place, just east of the Rayburn County Club, when it was reported that a two unit-single story condominium was on fire. They arrived to find it already completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters immediately went to work battling the blaze and soon called for assistance from both the Angelina River and Jasper Fire Departments before finally bringing the fire under control. One of the units was completely destroyed by the fire while the other was gutted. After the flames were out, Rayburn Fire Chief Brett Holloway said the first body was discovered in the kitchen of the condo, and later on Saturday evening, a second body was found. The Texas State Fire Marshal's Office arrived shortly after 2:00pm and they have now taken over the investigation. However, the investigation was hampered on Saturday when it was reported that one of the investigators from the State Agency was overcome by heat and required medical attention.
