A major accident in San Augustine County has left a man and three children injured, and the man accused of being intoxicated and causing the crash has been arrested on multiple felony charges. It occurred shortly after 9:00 on Highway 83 about a half-mile west of Farm to Market Road 1751, between Pineland and Broaddus. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark says 20-year-old Brandon Rice, of Hemphill, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound while Dewey Hinote, 27, of Pineland, was driving a 1996 Mazda pickup truck eastbound. Sergeant Clark said Rice crossed the center line and the vehicles collided head-on. Two medical helicopters were landed at the scene along with multiple ambulances. Hinote was flown to a hospital in Kingwood, while all three children, ages 5, 9, and 10, were all taken to Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston. One of the children with the most serious injuries was flown by the second helicopter. Meanwhile, Rice, who was not injured, was taken into custody and is charged with four felony counts of Intoxication Assault.
