UPDATED - DPS says trailer detached from 18-wheeler and crashed

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the driver of an 18-wheeler was traveling at an unsafe speed during rainy conditions, which resulted in his big-rig hydroplaning and then crashing off of a Tyler County highway late Wednesday morning. Sergeant Shana Clark says emergency crews responded shortly after 10:00 to U.S. Highway 69, just south of Hillister. Clark says the 2007 Peterbilt truck was pulling a tanker trailer northbound when the crash occurred, and the semi ended up crashed into a ditch and trees on the west side of the roadway. Fortunately, the driver of the truck, Todd LaSalle, Jr., of New Iberia, Louisiana, was not injured in the wreck. Sergeant Clark said he received a citation for Traveling at an Unsafe Speed. The Texas Department of Public Safety says that their investigation has concluded that a mechanical malfunction resulted in the trailer of an i8-wheeler becoming detached from the truck and then the trailer crashed off of a Tyler County highway late Wednesday morning.
