NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KALB) - UPDATE: NPFD #5 is reporting that LDAF has plowed fire lanes around the fire and is considered contained at this time. According to NPFD #5 Chief Derek Boyt, a private landowner was burning debris when the fire spread into a heavily dense wooded area causing the fire. Approximately 10 acres burned. LDAF with dozers was able to cut fire lanes and contain the fire. The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office has reported a brush fire active in the 2700 block of La. HWY 478 east of Flora. Fire units have been unable to reach the fire deep into the woods. Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #5 is working the fire with assistance from Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #4. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry is currently responding to the scene with bulldozers in an attempt to contain the fire. Fire units are standing by in the area to protect property. Heavy smoke may be in the area.
