Unsecure Lumber Hits Another Driver in the Head, Troopers Search for Truck

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A driver reportedly suffered massive head trauma when he was hit in the head by unsecured lumber, and state troopers are trying to locate the driver of the truck responsible for it. Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth said it happened shortly after 6:00 on Highway 87, just south of Burkeville.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark, 55-year-old Julius Hippler, of Florien, Louisiana, was driving northbound in a 2019 Ford pickup truck while an unknown flatbed truck hauling lumber was southbound.

Clark and Duckworth say a piece of lumber hanging off of the flatbed truck went through the windshield of the pickup on the driver side, striking Mr. Hippler in the head.

Hippler was flown by medical helicopter to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment.
