Underground storm drain collapsed at Beaumont's St Anthony Cathedral Basilica

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

City of Beaumont work crews will soon begin making repairs to an underground storm drain that has collapsed under the street in front of St Anthony Cathedral Basilica. Father Shane Baxter says the precarious situation was discovered by two parishioners. The city has blocked off Jefferson Street in front of the Church, which is located just west of downtown. According to the Public Works Department, it’s an old cast iron type and dates back to the days when both sewer water and rain water both flowed in the same lines. The work is expected to take approximately three months.
