Honey Island — The Texas Department of Public Safety says two women in a pickup truck were killed in Honey Island when they tried to cross the railroad tracks ahead of a train and it collided with their vehicle.
The DPS says the 47-year-old driver of the Dodge pickup truck and her 27-year-old passenger, both from Kountze, died at the scene. Troopers aren't releasing their names until they notify relatives.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at about 1:40 p.m., Tuesday, the driver of a 2008 Dodge pickup was traveling south on Woods Lane off FM 1293, several miles west of Kountze, while a train was traveling east on the railway tracks. It is reported the driver of the Dodge tried to cross the railway tracks ahead of the train and the vehicle was struck.
