Two people dead and another injured in wreck near Port Arthur

Highway 73 West reopened at about 9 p.m. Tuesday following a collision near Labelle Road that killed a man and woman and injured a third person, according to information DPS Sgt. Shana Clark provided to KFDM/Fox 4 News. She tells KFDM the crash at about 6 p.m. Tuesday involved a Mitsubishi passenger car and a Chevrolet pickup truck. Video taken by our photojournalist at the scene shows the passenger car split in half, with the front portion partially on the highway and the rear half in the grass. According to the preliminary crash investigation, the driver of the passenger car crossed over the grassy median into the westbound lane and was struck by the pickup truck. Justice of the Peace Justin Chesson tells KFDM/Fox 4 News a man and woman in the Mitsubishi died at the scene. The judge has ordered autopsies. Investigators aren't releasing the names until they notify relatives. The driver of the pickup truck was taken by ambulance to a hospital. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to Chesson. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
