Two injured in north Jasper County crash

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Two people were injured – one very critically – at an intersection notorious for accidents in north Jasper County. It happened during the noon hour Tuesday on Highway 96 at Farm to Market Road 1007 in Brookeland. Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark says 69-year-old Linda Smith, of Huntington, was driving a 2023 Chevrolet Equinox SUV eastbound on FM 1007, while 52-year-old Dawn Woods, of Newton, was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV northbound on Highway 96. Clark said Smith failed to yield at the stop sign and she pulled out in front of Woods. The front of the Tahoe then struck the passenger side of the Equinox. Linda Smith was transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while Dawn Woods was transported by private auto to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
