Two in Custody After VPSO Deputies say They Discovered Large Amount of Drugs & Weapons

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Department says a traffic stop led to the arrest of a man and woman after the discovery of a large amount of drugs and weapons.

According to Sheriff Sam Craft, deputies arrested Mikah A. Demoraes, 24, and Leah Mitchell-Burroughs James, 25, both of Leesville. Craft said both have been charged with numerous offenses, but bond has not yet been set and both remain in the Vernon Parish Jail. They will be working with a League City drug crime lawyer to help defend them in court. Once the bond is determined, they may also work with a bail bonds Bedford agency.

Craft said the couple was in possession of:

~ 84.9 grams of Methamphetamine

~ 28 grams of Marijuana

~ 5 LSD tablets

~ 16 doses of Testosterone

~ 28 Sertraline Hydrochloride pills

~ 2 Loprazolam pills

~ 8 Quetiapine Fumarate pills

~ 7 Buspirone hydrochloride pills

~ Drug Paraphernalia

~ Firearms

~ Cash money

Craft said Mikah A. Demoraes was charged with:

~ 1 count of Drug Paraphernalia

~ 1 count of Possession of Marijuana with intent to Distribute

~ 1 count of Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic (Methamphetamine) to Distribute

~ 1 count of Illegal possession of a firearm while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance

~ 1 count of Possession of Methamphetamine in excess of 28 grams

~ 1 count of Possession of a Schedule IV Narcotic

~ Bond has not yet been set and Demoraes remains in the Vernon Parish Jail

Craft said Leah Mitchell-Burroughs James was charged with:

~ 1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

~ 1 count of Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic (Methamphetamine) with the intent to Distribute

~ 1 count of Possession of Methamphetamine in excess of 28 grams

~ 1 count of Possession of Marijuana

~ 1 count of Possession of a Legend Drug

~ 1 count of Stop Signs and Yield Signs Required on Vehicle

~ 1 count of Proper Equipment Required on Vehicles
