NATCHITOCHES PARISH, La. (KALB) - On Thursday, July 23, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of two people for allegedly using stolen checks at local businesses.
On July 1, deputies were sent out to a local business after receiving a call that someone had possibly used a forged check to buy merchandise.
Detective Katie Middleton was then assigned to the case and began investigating. She contacted the true owner of the checks who confirmed that they had been stolen from a vacant property in the 4200 block of Hwy 486, near Campti. They also said the account the checks were connected to had been closed for about 10 years.
Detectives later learned of two more stolen checks used at other businesses in Natchitoches. That merchandise was later found at a local pawn shop.
Detectives were able to identify two suspects:
- Tiffany Ammons, 35, of Powhatan
- Branden Sullivan, 24, of Campti
They then interviewed Ammons and gathered additional information, which gave them enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for both Ammons and Sullivan.
On Wednesday, July 22, at around 7:30 pm, both were arrested after a traffic stop.
Both were booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and are awaiting bond.
Tiffany Ammons was charged with:
- 3 counts of monetary instrument abuse
- 3 counts of forgery
- 3 counts of theft
Branden Sullivan was charged with:
- 2 counts of principal to monetary instrument abuse
- 2 counts of principal to theft
Detectives said their investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
