The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says two men are in custody after they burglarized an old former Catholic Church in Buna. Deputy Karli Cherry says the burglary-in-progress was reported at about 2:00 Tuesday morning in the 35,000 block of Highway 96. Cherry said deputies arrived to find electric wire rolled up on the ground, and as they were searching the building they found both suspects hiding in the attic. They’ve been identified as Deric Blankenship, 36, of Buna and Steven Massey, 46, of Jasper. Both have been charged with Burglary of a Building and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity.
