The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says that three pickup trucks were reported stolen on Thursday morning in the Buna area, while at least two vehicles and one house were burglarized overnight.
This comes about one month after thieves stole a total of seven vehicles – six pickup trucks and one car – in a 24 hour period in and around Jasper.
Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman along with state and federal authorities say the thefts are being conducted by organized crime operating in Mexico and also here in the United States. The criminal operations modify the trucks and then haul numerous illegal aliens and/or drugs into the United States.
One of the stolen trucks belongs to Brad Oldbury. He posted on his Facebook page on Thursday that the truck, a silver Dodge Ram 2500 double-cab, was stolen from his carport. He said the truck has “South Texas Premier Outfitters” stickers on the driver’s side back window and on the driver’s side rear door window, and it also had a black Tractor Supply brand toolbox in the bed.
Another stolen truck is owned by Kevin Christopher. His wife, Amy, says that the slate blue 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 was taken from County Road 716, commonly known as Reese Road. Amy says the truck has a "Texas Elite Bikers" sticker, a "motorcycle riders safety" sticker, a "beach parking" sticker, and a "Deer Cove Hunting Club" sticker.
The Buna Beacon is reporting that one of the trucks that was stolen is owned by James Hare, and he says that it ran out of gas so they abandoned it about three miles away from his house. Hare also says he discovered that they broke into his house and stole his wallet from a counter-top.
