Truck leaves road in heavy rain resulting in death of Lufkin man

A resident of Lufkin has died following a tragic one vehicle accident that occurred on Saturday evening, just west of Jasper on Highway 63. The volunteers of the both the Beech Grove and Jasper Fire Departments were dispatched to the location near the intersection of County Road 164 at what is known as Campbell Hill, shortly after 8:00 on Saturday evening when it was reported that the accident occurred. Officers believe the 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck was headed was headed eastbound on 63, when it for some unknown reason, left the road and ended up striking multiple trees on the south side of the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, Dario Edwards, 51, was taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. The accident occurred during heavy rains and as firemen and others arrived to see some of the most severe lightning in the area for sometime as severe thunderstorms moved through the area.

Officers said it appeared that Edwards was traveling at a high rate of speed and the vehicle hydroplaned, causing the crash.
