The Texas Department of Public Safety says a Newton County log truck driver ignored activated railroad crossing signals and his fully loaded log truck was hit by a train in Evadale shortly after 10:00 Tuesday morning. According to DPS Sergeant Shana Clark, 31-year-old Donavin Rosemon, of Bon Wier, was driving a 1989 Freightliner southbound on Farm to Market Road 1131 when he came upon the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railroad tracks. Sergeant Clark said when Rosemon disregarded the train signal. His truck was hit by a westbound Rio Grande Pacific train, which split the semi in two and scattered the load of logs. Amazingly, Rosemon was not injured, and there was no report of the train crew receiving injuries. Meanwhile, work crews were busy through Tuesday afternoon trying to clean up the mess.
