Two people were transported to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital on Thursday, where they were treated for the injuries they received in a two vehicle auto accident that occurred north of Jasper at the intersection of Highway 96 and Recreational Road 255, near Lake Rayburn.
Deputy Kevin Holloway of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department said early indications were that the accident occurred when a late model GMC Yukon, which was traveling west on RR-255 and crossing Highway 96, pulled out into the path of a late model Ford F-150 pick up truck that was traveling southbound on Highway 96.
Holloway said the Ford struck the GMC in the passenger side, causing it to spin out of control resulting in the injuries. However, Holloway said State Troopers were performing a complete investigation into the crash.
The volunteers of the Lake Rayburn Fire Department and other emergency crews responded to the crash that occurred shortly after 3:00 pm and helped to rescue the occupants of the vehicle and stand by in case of fire. However, no blaze resulted from the incident.
The driver of the Ford, Kirk Hensarling, 62 of Jasper and two passengers were taken by ambulance to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the GMC, Mary Clark, 33, of Brookeland and her two year old child were not injured in the crash.
Officers at the scene reported that it was fortunate that the two year old was properly secured in a child seat.
