They’re investigating in Newton County after thieves tried - and failed - to steal an ATM machine from a bank. In fact, it’s the second unsuccessful attempt to steal the ATM machine from the same location in the last nine months.
Sheriff Robert Burby said it happened early Thursday morning at Sabine State Bank on Highway 63 in Burkeville.
According to Burby, the Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation, and at last word they were looking at security video.
Three men tried to steal the same ATM machine in June of 2020, but they also failed. Law enforcement quickly identified and arrested them.
