Kirbyville Police say a man is in custody after a Tuesday morning theft was foiled by someone who saw what was going on and called police.
Officer Josh Hancock said he and other officers were dispatched to a business at the intersection of Farm to Market Road 363 and Highway 96 on the north side of Kirbyville shortly before 8:00 when it was reported that someone was stealing copper and other items from the location
Hancock said that as he arrived, the suspect took off and ran into the woods. A chase followed and a short time later the suspect was apprehended by Jasper County Sheriff's Deputy Calvin Starkey.
The suspect was taken to the Jasper County Jail where he was at last word still being held.
Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister said there is nothing stronger in the battle against crime than a alert, vigilant citizen who watches what is going on in their neighborhood.
