Texas Rangers investigating those who assisted convicted murderer Matthew Edgar

Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox says the Texas Rangers have stepped in and are heading up the investigation into who was
harboring and assisting convicted murderer Matthew Hoy Edgar while he was a fugitive from justice for the last year. Edgar was recently captured and is now imprisoned at the Byrd Unit in Huntsville. Midway through his January 2022 trial for the October 31st, 2020 murder of 19-year-old Livye Lewis, Edgar and his family members didn't show up in the Sabine County Courthouse. The trial continued without him present and he was convicted of the crime and sentenced to life in prison. Edgar had been free from the county jail under a $50,000.00 bond. Earlier in 2022 his bond had been reduced from an initial amount of $1 million because the District Attorney's Office didn't garner a Grand Jury indictment within a certain time frame under new bail reform laws. When Edgar was captured on December 29th, he was at a house in the 600 block of Richard Drive, very near to his parents' home.
