Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced a plan for a partial reopening of the state beginning on Friday, May 1st, known as Phase 1, which comes a day after the statewide stay-at-home order due to Coronavirus expires on Thursday, April 30th.
According to Abbott, as of Friday, the following businesses and other entities may reopen, but they can only allow 25% of capacity inside:
~ Retail stores
~ Restaurants
~ Movie theaters
~ Malls
~ Libraries
~ Museums
Abbot also mentioned churches, saying that as of Friday all churches can hold expanded services.
According to Abbot, the following businesses are not yet allowed to reopen:
~ Hair salons
~ Barbershops
~ Bars
~ Gyms
According to Abbott, the rate of new Coronavirus cases has been on the decline for over 2 weeks, and he said if this trend continues and the state does not see any more flare-ups of the illness, he plans to begin Phase 2 of reopening the state on or about May 18th.
Abbott said Phase 2 would include allowing the aforementioned businesses and entities to increase occupancy to 50%, and also the possible reopening of hair salons, barbershops, bars, and gyms.
