Teenager who fled from law enforcement captured in Kirbyville

A teenager who fled on foot from law enforcement officers late last month was captured over the weekend in Kirbyville. According to Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister, 17-year-old Julius Jaqualyn Rivas was found and arrested at Magnolia Park. On August 19th, Kirbyville Police and Jasper County deputies went to Rivas’ home on Highway 96 across from Kirbyville Elementary School to speak to him about a case, but he reportedly fled out of the back of the house and managed to remain at-large. During the weekend arrest, Brister said an officer had to fight Rivas to get him into custody, and the officer then discovered that the suspect was armed with a gun. Rivas has now been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Assault of a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest/Search/Transport, Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon, and Burglary of a Vehicle. According to the Jasper County Jail, his bond was set at a combined total of $61,000.00 and he remains in the Jasper County Jail.
