SHREVEPORT, La. - A teenage boy was seriously injured after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle late Friday night, according to the Shreveport Police Department.
As of Sunday morning, the boy remains in critical condition.
The boy was riding his bike in the 3300 block of Greenwood Road close to 9:40 p.m. when he was hit by a truck.
Officers found the unresponsive teen in the roadway with life-threatening injuries to his head and body. He was taken to Ochsner LSU Health.
SPD's investigation suggests that the boy unexpectedly entered the roadway. The driver was unable to avoid the crash.
Witnesses stated that a group of approximately 4 juveniles had been riding bicycles along the sidewalk and began crossing into the street when the crash occurred.
Police say the driver immediately stopped, rendered aid, and called 911. He later voluntarily submitted a blood sample for toxicology testing.
