The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department says the suspect in the murder of a woman on Wednesday is now in custody. Sheriff Mark Windham had announced earlier in the day that they were searching for 32-year-old Carlos Caporali Manuel, of Joaquin. He was named a person of interest in the death of a 32-year-old woman in Joaquin, which is about 70 miles north of Jasper. Authorities say Manuel called the Tyler Police Department at about 6:00 Wednesday evening and told them that he was at a restaurant and he was the suspect in the murder. Tyler Police said they found him with a black eye and facial injuries, so they first took him to a hospital for evaluation, and then to jail. Manuel was extradited back to Shelby County on Thursday.
