Suspect in 2021 home invasion robbery arrested

Jasper Police have arrested a man who is charged with committing a home invasion robbery on July 20th, 2021. Police Chief Gerald Hall says 27-year-old Alexander Jevonte Brooks, of Jasper, was captured on Saturday after managing to elude capture for 2 years and 8 months. According to the original police report, Patia Haskell said the crime occurred in her apartment at Sweetbriar Apartments, located on Farm to Market Road 2800. According to the report, Haskell told officers that she came home from work to find Brooks sitting outside of her apartment door, and he then forced his way inside after she told him that he could not come in. Once in the apartment, Haskell told officers that Brooks hit her face, so she grabbed a kitchen knife to defend herself, but Brooks then began choking her to the point that she thought that she would pass out. She managed to bite his finger and began hitting him with the handle of the knife until she was finally able to stop the assault. Haskell told police that Brooks then took her cell phone and threw a flowerpot which busted her apartment window as he was leaving. Alexander Jevonte Brooks was arraigned by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Gina Cleveland on a 2nd degree felony robbery charge, and his bond was set at $50,000.00.
