Sulphur teen killed in crash on Camp Edgewood Rd.

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A passenger was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Beauregard Parish at around 4 a.m. Sunday.

The crash claimed the life of Kyler Louis Lacy, 19, of Sulphur.

Chad Garren Cooley, 20, of DeQuincy, was driving a 2000 Ford pickup truck east on Camp Edgewood Road with Lacy in the front passenger seat when Cooley lost control of the vehicle, said Derek Senegal of Louisiana State Police Troop D.

The pickup ran off the road to the right at the intersection of Camp Edgewood and Pilgrim Rest roads, Senegal said. The pickup then traveled back across the roadway and overturned.

Lacy was pronounced dead at the scene, Senegal said. Cooley was brought to a Lake Charles area hospital with moderate injuries.

Lacy was not restrained, Senegal said.

Police suspect that impairment and speed were factors in the crash. A toxicology sample was submitted for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.

Troop D has investigated 17 fatal crashes resulting in 19 deaths in 2022, including four in the past three days.
