WESTLAKE, La. (KPLC) - State police investigators are releasing the identity of the suspect who was killed in a standoff with sheriff’s deputies on Miller Road.
Kristopher Hanks, 42, of Westlake, was shot by a Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies after a standoff that lasted seven hours on Friday, according to Louisiana State Police Troop D Public Affairs Trooper Roy Jones.
Deputies say they got a call about a disturbance at a home on Miller Avenue near the Calcasieu River around 9 a.m.
When deputies arrived, Hanks went inside and refused to come out or let the other people inside leave, according to Sheriff Stitch Guillory. Two juveniles and an elderly person were also inside the home.
While negotiating with deputies, Hanks came out of the home armed with a handgun, Jones said. In response, multiple deputies shot and killed Hanks.
No deputies were injured during the incident.
State police were called in by the sheriff’s office to investigate the deputy-involved shooting around 4 p.m. on Friday, Jones said.
