The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is now investigating a situation that occurred on Monday and left numerous Woodville Middle School 6th grade boys with severe burns on their hands.
It happened when a coach - who has since been terminated by the school district - made them do a “bear crawl” on the running track around the football field. They had to go around the track bent over on their feet and hands.
The temperature on Monday reached 90 degrees, and one of the parents measured the track temperature at more than 150 degrees.
Meanwhile, Woodville Police are also investigating along with the Tyler County District Attorney’s Office, which could result in the case going to the Grand Jury and possibly a criminal indictment of the coach.
Some of the injured students underwent treatment at the Shriner’s Burn Hospital in Galveston and others went to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
