The Sabine River Authority on Friday announced that it has purchased the Pendleton Harbor Marina land next to the Highway 21 Pendleton Harbor Bridge and they plan to create a park and boat ramps there which will be called the Toledo Bend Recreation Facility. Additionally, the SRA says a new administration office and a visitor’s center is also in the works for the site.
An artist’s rendition of the plan for the park was also released which shows the park containing multi‐lane boat ramps, a protective jetty, fishing pier, enhanced parking, pavilion, swim beach, playground areas, public restrooms, walking trails, and other amenities. They will also be working with Playground painting contractors for a well-designed playground.
The SRA also said that they plan to build a new administrative office and a visitor’s center at the location. Additionally, the SRA says they are working with the Texas Department of Transportation to create improved turning lanes on State Highway 21 for safe entry and exit from the facility.
Sabine County Judge Daryl Melton has expressed his enthusiasm about the project, saying “Sabine County and all of East Texas are blessed to have SRA develop a project of this significance on Toledo Bend. The new facility will enhance recreational opportunities for residents and visitors to the area. I expect that additional private investment in the area will follow this project and is perfectly timed to work with our economic development vision in Sabine County. We appreciate the Sabine River Authority and their efforts to make this happen.”
A press release from the SRA did not give an indication of when construction is scheduled to begin or when the public can expect the project to be complete.
