SHREVEPORT, La. -- A Shreveport police officer is dead and another critically injured in a rollover crash Friday afternoon, Shreveport police have confirmed. The off-duty officers were in a blue Mustang traveling on W. 70th Street and hit a white van as the driver appeared to attempt a left-hand turn into their path. After the impact, the car skidded down the roadway then veered into a vacant house and rolled over. Officer Matthew Rhoden, 37, died in the wreck. The other officer, who has not been identified, was taken to Ochsner LSU Health hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Angie Wilhite. The driver of the van was not injured. The crash happened at 2 p.m. on W. 70th Street at Broadacres Road. More than 20 Shreveport police, Shreveport fire and state troopers responded to the scene.  City Council District G Councilwoman Ursula Bowman released the following statement: "I am heartbroken to learn of the tragic accident in District G that claimed the life of a dedicated City of Shreveport police officer and left another citizen seriously injured.
