SHREVEPORT, La. -- A 17-year-old student was arrested today for having a loaded gun at school, Sheriff Steve Prator said in a news release. The arrest came after a school metal detector was alerted when a student entered Southwood High School earlier this morning. A search of the student's backpack was conducted, and a loaded gun was found and confiscated. The student was immediately taken into to custody by the school's SRO, Cpl. Willie Williams. After further investigation by sheriff's Juvenile Det. Ray Saunders, the student was arrested and booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center for carrying a firearm on school property.
