Smith County deputies arrest 1 in connection with armed robbery of Tyler smoke shop

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - One of two men suspected of robbing up a Tyler smoke shop has been arrested. According to an arrest affidavit, D’Angelo Thomas, 21, and another unnamed black male are believed to have entered Mahi Smoke Shop the night of Friday, Feb. 16 and robbed the store and its clerk using an AR-style rifle. The store’s owner reported $1,290 in cash, multiple vape pens and cartridges worth $90 and three glass jars containing CBD flowers worth $450 each as being stolen during the incident. Thomas is said to have entered the store wearing a black hooded jacket, a San Diego Browns hat, Air Jordan sneakers, a t-shirt with the logo for the movie Halloween, and a blue latex glove on his right hand. According to surveillance footage and the victim’s testimony, Thomas pulled the store clerk off the floor near the cash register and told her to “open it or get shot.” Thomas is also accused of attempting to rob the clerk of her own money. Investigators allege they found a fingerprint from Thomas’ ungloved left hand on one of the vape packages left near the scene. They say that Thomas’ photo from a previous arrest in Louisiana matched the image of one of the suspects caught on surveillance footage at the store. On Monday, Smith County deputies arrested Thomas on a charge of aggravated robbery and booked him into the Smith County Jail with a $300,000 bond.
