A police officer and five others are recovering after being involved in a four-car pileup on Youree Drive late Sunday morning.
Before 11 a.m. Feb. 20, a report of a possible self-inflicted shooting came in to dispatchers. An officer responding to the call was traveling south, using their lights and sirens, on Youree Drive and heading in the direction of the reported shooting. (It later was determined that the report of the shooting was false.)
As the police officer was turning east from Youree Drive onto East 70th street, a black SUV heading north on Youree Drive struck the police vehicle. The SPD vehicle then struck two other vehicles.
A Shreveport Fire Department spokesman said medics took a total of six people to the hospital. The officer received minor injuries. The extent of the others’ injuries is not immediately known.
Police remained at the scene for a time to divert drivers from westbound East 70th Street.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
