SHREVEPORT, La. -- A Shreveport man faces multiple charges after Caddo sheriff's deputies say he subjected his disabled father to several days of physical abuse, extortion and threats to his life.
Johnathan Campbell, 38, was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center on charges of domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse aggravated assault, false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon and extortion.
Deputies were dispatched Sunday afternoon to the 4200 block of Roy Road for a welfare concern. A caller reported she had not heard from her father for several days and was unable to reach him by phone.
A man who answered the door showed visible signs of trauma and had blood on his face. He appeared to be distressed and relieved upon their arrival, the sheriff's office said.
The 63-year-old man accused his son of physically abusing him since Christmas Day. He alleged Campbell held him against his will and broke his phone to prevent him from seeking help.
The man described repeated assaults and said his son demanded access to his bank accounts. He also allegedly faced intimidation, with Campbell blocking exits while wielding a hammer and threatening to set the house on fire if he attempted to leave.
Campbell was arrested at the house without incident.
Caddo Fire District No. 1 responded to provide medical assistance to the victim.
