A Gary man wound up in the hospital after leading police on a chase and crashing into an 18-wheeler in an attempt to evade arrest.
According to a release from the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday around 9:15 a.m. Chad Wesley Jones, 30, was being arrested for violating his probation when he ran from officers, getting into a vehicle to flee the Panola County courthouse.
Multiple law enforcement agencies immediately responded to chase Jones, including a Panola County constable, the fire marshal, and Texas Highway Patrol.
Two officers located Jones’ vehicle on South Market Street in Carthage and turned their lights on, ordering Jones to stop. Jones continued driving, turning onto Loop 435 before exiting on to State Highway 315.
While fleeing, Jones swerved into oncoming traffic where he crashed into an 18-wheeler. UT Health EMS and the Carthage Fire Department responded to the crash while Carthage police and TXDOT assisted with traffic control. The Texas Highway Patrol will be conducting the motor vehicle crash investigation.
According to the sheriff, the crash has been determined to be intentional. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Jones was taken to hospital. Once released he will be booked into the Panola County Detention Center.
