A severe thunderstorm with a tornado left a path of damage from near Onalaska, Texas in Polk County to Evans, Louisiana in Vernon Parish. Much of that damage occurred in this area, including Colmesneil, Curtis, Jasper, Jamestown, and Burkeville.
The tornado began at about 5:30 near Onalaska on the northeast side of Lake Livingston. KTRK 13 News in Houston is reporting that at least 3 people were killed and twenty others injured.
KALB in Alexandria is also reporting that one person died in the small community of Woodruff when the severe weather passed over the area southwest of Alexandria. However, no deaths or injuries were reported in Jasper, Newton or Tyler County.
Meanwhile, massive damage was also reported there and numerous fire departments, including Woodville firefighters responded to help.
The tornado continued to trek east, crossing the northern end of Tyler County where it impacted Chester and Colmesneil.
The storm then rolled over northern Jasper County where it knocked down numerous trees and power lines, including trees that went down on top of houses.
The storm then continued in northern Newton County. Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said that at least one house was completely destroyed. Rowles said it was the home of Tommy& Dianne Brown, located off of Farm to Market Road 1012 in the Jamestown Community. Rowles said the husband and wife were ok, but their tractor was blown away and they were searching for it.
A little further east, Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth reported numerous trees down across Highway 87 between Newton and Burkeville.
The storm crossed into Louisiana where Detective Rhonda Jordan of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Department said there were reports of damage in the Evans Community.
