Search to resume Wednesday for Lake Bistineau drowning victim

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

ELM GROVE, La. -- Recovery crews will be back out at Lake Bistineau early Wednesday searching for a Ringgold man who is believed to have drowned there on Tuesday. Authorities say Kenneth Gibson, 55, fell into Lake Bistineau east of Elm Grove in southern Bossier Parish. Deputies say the victim and his nephew were fishing from the dam near the spillway when they both slipped into the water. The nephew tried to save his uncle, but swirling water pulled him under. The spillway gates are open to allow for a drawdown of Lake Bistineau to reduce the spread of giant salvinia. Bossier deputies were called to the scene to help with search and rescue efforts along with South Bossier Fire District, Bienville Fire District, La. Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents, Bienville Parish Sheriff's Office, and other agencies.
