KJAS Radio News has learned that the search for a missing DeRidder man has moved to Newton County after officials on both sides of the State Line obtained information that alleges that the man was murdered under the Sabine River Bridge at Bon Wier.

Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said late Saturday that officers in Louisiana had interviewed a woman missing man was shot and killed under the bridge. However, Rowles declined to say who the woman was or where she got her information.

The search for Jimmie Box, 26, apparently began on Sunday August 2nd, when his family reported that he was missing. However, a break in the case came a few days ago when the pick up he was last seen in was found in Calcasieu Parish. However, Rowles would not say on Saturday if the two incidents were related.

Rowles said he and his deputies searched the area in and around the Sabine River Bridge on Highway 190 for several hours on Saturday for evidence and then returned on Sunday where they were joined by officers from the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Department, DeRidder Police, Newton Police, Texas Game Wardens and the members of the Jasper County Emergency Corps. However, later in the day the search was called off.

A source in the group said the information obtained by officers had not panned out and that there was no clear information if or when or where the alleged shooting took place or where the body of the victim might be.
