The Shreveport school where 13 students and three employees were sickened Tuesday will remain closed Wednesday for further investigation, a school official said.
"This is in an abundance of caution in order to allow for personnel to continue to perform a thorough review of the campus. We are thankful for the efforts of our first responders who have worked with us to ensure the campus is safe and prepared to welcome students and staff," spokeswoman Mary Nash-Wood said.
Authorities still have not confirmed what caused the students and staff of Broadmoor Middle Laboratory to become ill.
Thirteen students were sent to the hospital for examination. All were released Tuesday afternoon.
The students started complaining about being nausea and headaches shortly after noon. First, two were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Another 11 followed, Nash-Wood said.
The campus was evacuated to allow for a thorough search and any determination for the illnesses, Nash-Wood said.
One father told KTBS his children have been coming home the past week complaining of headaches. He and his wife learned about what was going on when their child notified them through a social media post.
"Right now I'm a little scared about what's going on," Dane Espinosa said. "It's a scary situation.
Espinosa said he won't send his children to school tomorrow because "I don't believe they can fix it that quick."
Centerpoint and multiple Shreveport fire personnel were on the scene checking for a possible natural gas leak. They cleared the school and checked the classrooms where the students were in attendance.
No signs of a leak were immediately detected, Nash-Wood said.
But if emergency crews determine a gas leak is to blame, it wouldn't be the first one. In February 2014, the school was closed several days after a leak was detected and lines were replaced. The district ended up replacing more than 600 feet of gas line hook-ups to several buildings on school grounds.
