San Augustine police searching for suspect who fired at officers

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

SAN AUGUSTINE, Texas (KTRE) - The San Augustine Police Department is searching for someone they say fired at officers Friday night.

Police officers and sheriff’s deputies in San Augustine were called to the Sunset Hills Apartment Complex on 900 Holly Courts Drive on reports of gunfire being heard in the area.

According to the SAPD, While searching the area an unknown individual fired a shot close to them. One officer heard the sound of a bullet passing nearby by, confirming it was shot in his direction.

Police say the suspect immediately ran away into a wooded area just east of the apartments. Officers chased after them but lost sight due to the dense foliage.

Upon reviewing footage from the officers’ body cameras, the SAPD says a flash from a gun was clearly visible at the moment the shot was fired. Also the suspect appeared to be hiding at the edge of the wooded area when they fired at the officers.

Due to the darkness and obstruction from trees, the SAPD were not able to make out any distinguishing features or articles of clothing for the suspect.

If you have any information that could help with this case, you can contact the San Augustine Police Department at 936-275-2384 or the San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office at 936-275-2424.
