After hitting an all time, record breaking high of 175.24 feet at around midnight on Tuesday evening at Sam Rayburn Reservoir, the level was at 175.08 feet, shortly after 9:00 on Wednesday and holding steady.
For days now, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have held the line the level of the reservoir as they attempt to protect the integrity of the dam and at the same time, protect the people and property below the dam.
At last word, the operators of the dam were running both generators and flood gates 24 hours a day.
If the level of the reservoir reaches 176 feet, water will flow over the emergency spillway on the southwest side of the lake, possibly causing washouts and havoc.
While the level of the lake is expected to fall, it all depends on the weather and how much rain falls upstream of the lake.
