Sabine Parish Sheriff Aaron Mitchell reports that yesterday afternoon, Deputy Dennis Courtney was involved in a minor fender bender while off duty and operating a Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office unit on Fort Polk. Following the incident, Deputy Courtney was arrested by Fort Polk Police for misdemeanor DWI. After the arrest and discussions with Fort Polk officials, Courtney was terminated from employment with the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office.
"This is a very unfortunate event. Courtney is a well-regarded 30-plus year veteran of law enforcement; however, this type of behavior will not be tolerated. We will continue to hold our deputies accountable for their actions and strive to always maintain the public's trust," said Sheriff Mitchell.
