A Sabine Parish grand jury has indicted a man arrested last year in a Many man’s shooting death.
The grand jury on Wednesday returned a true bill formally charging Darrell Anthony Williams Jr., 23, with second-degree murder in the June 18 shooting death of Lynnquithis L. January, 23, of Many, Assistant District Attorney Anna Garcie said.
Williams, a resident of Lake Charles who formerly lived in Many, was arrested in October following a multi-state investigation. He’s been jailed since his arrest.
Williams will be arraigned in Sabine District Court on Feb. 28. If convicted, he faces a sentence of life in prison.
Sabine sheriff's deputies said January was visiting friends at Apollo Apartments complex when he was shot by a person who approached him from behind. Shots were fired almost immediately, striking January multiple times in the face and body, according to Deputy Coroner Ron Rivers.
January died at the scene.
The shooter, who was wearing a dark-colored hoodie, ran away, leaving witnesses with only a vague description to give to investigators.
After a months-long investigation aided by a Crime Stoppers reward, Williams was found in Waveland, Miss., and arrested on a second-degree murder warrant.
Hancock County, Miss., Chief Investigator Glenn Grannan told the SunHerald newspaper Williams was also wanted for questioning in four other homicides connected to the suspected murder weapon.
