The wildfire in the Sabine National Forest between Hemphill and Toledo Bend Reservoir has grown to 1,077 acres as of Monday, according to the U.S. National Forest Service. It started one week ago, on Monday, July 24th, as the result of a lightning strike from a passing thunderstorm. The Forest Service says the blaze still poses no threat to homes or other structures. Meanwhile, efforts continue to battle the fire both on the ground and from the air by way of helicopter water drops. The Forest Service says their personnel have come from Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and Puerto Rico, while contract firefighters have come in from Florida and Georgia.
