A Sabine County firefighter has died. Mike Smith, who was 72, died on Tuesday. Had lived in the Milam Community for nine years and was a volunteer with the Shamrock Shores Fire Department. A statement from the department said that he had health problems for the last several years. The statement described Smith as “A valued, tried and true member of our Department.” Smith is survived by one brother and three sisters. Cremation was arranged by Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill, and a memorial service is currently being planned.
