Routine traffic stop results in late evening arrest in Newton County

On Friday, December 30, 2022, at nay p.m., Newton County Precinct i Constable Colton Havard was patrolling the area of County Road 4000 &3 4101, south of Trout Creek, when he conducted a traffic stop on a GMC SUV for several traffic violations. Havard said a search of the suspect's vehicle revealed methamphetamine and a gun resulting in the individual, who had a lengthy history with law enforcement, being placed under arrest and transported to the Newton County Jail. Havard said he would be submitting a probable cause statement to a judge asking that the suspect be charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. The suspect's name is has not been released, pending arraignment. Havard said the case would be submitted to the Newton County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
