Road closure shifts on DeSoto Parish highway

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

KINGSTON, La. -- A section of a highway between Interstate 49 and Mansfield will reopen Monday; however, another part will close for two weeks.

That means motorists driving state Highway 175 still won't be able to travel the entire route just yet. But state highway officials say the roadway is scheduled to reopen as planned at month's end.

Meanwhile, motorists will have to detour again to allow contractors to move to a second location about 2.9 miles south of the Relay Station to repair a headwall at a box culvert.

A separate section of the highway in the Holly area has been closed since the end of August to allow for culvert work.

Highway 175 is expected to be fully open to traffic on Sept. 30 even as the asphalt overlay portion of the work continues.

The work is in conjunction with a $11.2 million project to improve a 10.5-mile section of Highway 175 from Mansfield to the Kingston community. The work began in May and is expected to be completed in the spring.

The project includes full-depth repairs to address the roadway base at various locations, milling to remove the old asphalt, new asphalt paving on the entire project length, and permanent signage and roadway striping.
