An emergency road closure alert has been issued by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development due to flooding-high waters in Natchitoches Parish on Sunday evening.
According to the DOTD, LA 1226: from LA 1227 to the end of maintenance is closed until further notice.
The public is advised to avoid this area, and this alert has been put into effect immediately.
There are no detours at this time.
During bad weather conditions, drivers should use the following safety tips provided by DOTD:
• Drive slowly and carefully.
• Avoid driving into standing or running water.
• Avoid driving while distracted.
• Avoid using cruise control when visibility is low or road surfaces are wet.
• Always allow for extra driving time.
• Reduce speeds when visibility is low.
• Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
• Avoid using highway overpasses as tornado shelters.
